How to customize file type icons using Types

1. Extract the program from the archive and double-click the exe file to run it.
2. Right-click the icon that you want to change and click “Properties”.
3. Click the icon tab.
4. Select an icon from the available list and double-click it to replace the standard icon.
5. Or, click the browse button and navigate to your icon collection to replace the standard icon with a custom one.

Types is a free, portable application. It is compatible with Windows 7. It’s been tested only on Windows 7 32-bit. You can download Types from the developer’s homepage

SndVolPlus, which is portable, adds a new volume icon on the tray once you double-click the exe file. The volume icon looks just exactly the same as the original volume icon. Thus, you need to hide the original icon, which you can easily do by right-clicking the tray area, select and click the Properties, and click “Customize notification icons”.

After hiding the original volume icon, you can simply middle-click the SndVolPlus to mute sound in Windows.

In addition, you can access the volume mixer just by double-clicking the SndVolPlus volume icon.

SndVolPlus is compatible with Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit editions. It’s a freeware and you can download it from the developer’s homepage.

Taskbar Eliminator is the application that enables you to completely hide windows 7 taskbar and display it again everytime you need it back for some reason. What’s more, you can hide and unhide taskbar with a shortcut key. The hotkey isn’t, unfortunately, customizable, but it’s quite easy to remember.

One rule before you run the application for the first time, read the help file. Otherwise, you won’t know how to unhide your taskbar because once you double-click the application, the taskbar instantly disappears, leaving no clue as to how to get it back. Windows Mail Minimizer is a portable software designed solely for helping users to minimize Windows Live Mail to the tray area while giving some other options for quick access. The additional options are shortcuts to create a new email and send/receive email. Furthermore, it also provides command line support.

Note that Windows Mail Minimizer will open the email client you have set as default when you click the New Email shortcut. Thus, if you want to create a new email using Windows Live Mail whenever you click the shortcut, you have to configure Windows Live Mail as your default mail client.

After installing Visio Viewer, you can just double-click any visio file and it will be opened in Internet Explorer. Since this program is intended for viewing visio files only, you won’t be able to do many things with it. You can only pan and zoom the drawing, view properties of a shape, customize the display and layer, configure the annotation visibility and colors, and print the drawing file with limited printing capability.

The system requirement to run this Visio Viewer is that the operating system must be Windows 7, Windows Vista SP1 or SP2, Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit or 32-bit, Windows Server 2008 SP2, or Windows XP SP3. Additionally, it requires Internet Explorer 5, 6, 7, or 8.

If you use Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) you can download the earlier version, Visio Viewer 2007.

Note Your OS must be Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP if you want to display shapes drawn with the Ink tool in Visio. Shapes drawn with the Ink tool will not display on Windows 2000.
