How to Disable Firefox 4 Taskbar Tab Previews in Windows 7

Firefox 4 takes advantage of Aero Peek feature in Windows 7 so that users can see the tab previews in the taskbar. With this, users can select a tab from the preview and then go directly to the tab. However, if you open too many tabs, perhaps this isn’t effective anymore. When this happens, you can disable Firefox 4 taskbar tab previews easily.

How to turn off Firefox 4 tab previews in Windows 7 taskbar:

  1. Run Firefox, type about:config in the address bar and press Enter to open it. Ignore the warning.
  2. firefox 4 tab preview

  3. Type browser.taskbar.previews in the Filter tab.
  4. Find an entry named as browser.taskbar.previews.enable. Right-click it and click “Toggle”. This will change the entry’s value from “true” to “false”. Optionally, you can just double-click the entry to change the value.

Once you change the value, the taskbar tab preview is disabled instantly. No need to restart Firefox.

Another alternative is to completely turn off Windows 7 Aero Peek. This will affect Firefox 4 as well as other applications that make use of the Aero Peek capability.
