How to Make Unallocated Space Contiguous to Extend Partition?

Geeks - If you have unallocated space on your hard drive, you may want to extend an existing partition to make use of that space. In order to do this, the unallocated space must be contiguous with the partition you want to extend. In other words, the unallocated space must be directly next to the partition, without any other partitions or blocks of unallocated space in between. If the unallocated space is not contiguous, you will not be able to extend the partition using the built-in tools in your operating system.

There are a few different methods you can use to make unallocated space contiguous and extend a partition. Here are the steps for each method:

Method 1: Using the Disk Management Utility (Windows)

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialogue box.

Type "diskmgmt.msc" and press Enter to open the Disk Management utility.

Right-click on the partition you want to extend and select "Extend Volume."

Follow the prompts to select the unallocated space you want to add to the partition and click "Next."

Review the summary of the changes and click "Finish" to extend the partition.

Method 2: Using the GParted Live CD (Linux)

Download the GParted Live CD from the GParted website and burn it to a disc or create a bootable USB drive.

Restart your computer and boot from the GParted Live CD or USB.

Select your language and press Enter to continue.

When the GParted menu appears, select "GParted Live (Default Settings)."

Wait for GParted to load and identify your hard drive partitions.

Right-click on the partition you want to extend and select "Resize/Move."

Use the slider to adjust the size of the partition and move it so that the unallocated space is next to it.

Click "Resize/Move" to apply the changes.

Click the "Apply All Operations" button to apply the changes and extend the partition.

Method 3: Using Third-Party Software (Windows and Linux)

Download and install a third-party partition manager, such as EaseUS Partition Master or AOMEI Partition Assistant.

Launch the partition manager and select the partition you want to extend.

Click the "Resize/Move" button and use the slider or input fields to adjust the size of the partition and move it so that the unallocated space is next to it.

Click "Apply" to apply the changes and extend the partition.

Regardless of which method you choose, it's important to backup your data before making any changes to your partitions. This will help ensure that you don't lose any important files in case something goes wrong.
