Microsoft Surface: Delete Recovery Partition via 2 Methods

Geeks - Microsoft Surface devices often come with a recovery partition that can be used to restore the device to its original state in case of problems or errors. While this recovery partition can be useful in certain situations, it can also take up a significant amount of storage space on your device. If you want to free up this space or if you no longer need the recovery partition, you can delete it using one of the following methods:

Method 1: Using the Disk Management Utility

Press the Windows key and the X key at the same time, and then select "Disk Management" from the list of options.

In the Disk Management window, right-click on the recovery partition and select "Delete Volume."

Confirm that you want to delete the recovery partition by clicking "Yes" in the confirmation dialog box.

Method 2: Using the Command Prompt

Press the Windows key and the X key at the same time, and then select "Command Prompt (Admin)" from the list of options.

In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:

diskpart

Type the following command and press Enter:

list disk

This will display a list of all the disks connected to your device.

Type the following command and press Enter, replacing "x" with the number of the disk that contains the recovery partition:

select disk x

Type the following command and press Enter:

list partition

This will display a list of all the partitions on the selected disk.

Type the following command and press Enter, replacing "y" with the number of the recovery partition:

select partition y

Type the following command and press Enter:

delete partition

This will delete the selected partition, freeing up the storage space it was using.

Regardless of which method you use, it's important to note that deleting the recovery partition will permanently remove the ability to restore your device to its original state using the recovery partition. If you plan on selling or disposing of the device, you may want to consider creating a new recovery drive using the Windows recovery tool before deleting the partition.
